Before you appoint a marine surveyor
What information is needed for a Malaysia marine survey quote?
Provide the state, exact marina, berth or yard, vessel particulars, construction, purpose and preferred date. Include haul-out, sea trial, travel and any insurer, lender, registration or certification requirement.
Can one surveyor cover Peninsular Malaysia and Malaysian Borneo?
Potentially, but Sabah, Labuan and Sarawak are separate travel assignments. Flights, accommodation, local transport, yard access and the surveyor’s availability must be agreed for the actual location.
Is a private yacht survey enough for Malaysian registration?
Not automatically. The Malaysia Marine Department identifies formal survey, measurement and certification routes, including authorised surveyors or recognised organisations for defined work. Confirm the exact document and authority before instruction.
Can the survey be completed while the yacht remains afloat?
An afloat inspection may be possible, but a full condition or pre-purchase scope often requires an ashore view of the hull and underwater gear. Agree the lift, pressure wash and relaunch arrangements first.
Are travel, haul-out and sea trial included in the fee?
Only when expressly included. Domestic flights, accommodation, taxis, yard fees, lift, wash, relaunch, skipper, fuel and specialist testing can be separate.
Who appoints the marine surveyor?
The client appoints and instructs the independent surveyor directly after agreeing scope, fee, timing and terms. Malaysia Marine Survey provides information and introductions only.
